🧴 Where Does This Go? Paint, Electronics, Batteries & Glass

The curbside bin is for cardboard, cans, paper, and plastic. Everything else has its own spot - and it's different on each side of the river.

Clay County Resource Recovery Center
3322 15th Ave N, Moorhead · (218) 299-5016[4]

Mon-Fri 8-4, and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays 8-11:30 a.m.[4] Hazardous waste from Clay County households only; electronics from residents are free.[5]

What counts as household hazardous waste

Examples the facility takes: paints, thinners, stains, and varnish; drain cleaners; fertilizers; automotive fluids; aerosol cans; mercury thermostats; oil filters; and lithium-ion batteries - plus electronics like computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, and TVs.[2] Moorhead's list also names garden pesticides and weed killers, household cleaning chemicals, and fluorescent bulbs.[6] Clay County's program takes containers of 5 gallons or less, and only from households - not businesses.[5]

Glass

  • Fargo: no glass at the curb since March 6, 2023 - take it to one of the city's recycling drop sites.[3]
  • Moorhead: no glass in the blue tote - use the glass-only dumpsters at the drop-off locations.[7]

Furniture, appliances, and other big items

In Moorhead, furniture and appliances are a special pickup you're charged for, or you can haul them to the Resource Recovery Center (disposal fees apply) - except during the city's Clean Up Week.[6] In Clay County, microwaves and other appliances don't count as free electronics; they can go to the same place for a charge.[5]

Regular recycling - which week, what goes in the bin, and holiday changes - is on the recycling schedule. Last checked against each city's and county's pages: October 1, 2026.
