13 Places to Go Sledding in Fargo-Moorhead

Every park-district sledding hill in Fargo, West Fargo, and Moorhead - with free sleds in Fargo, warming houses, hill rules, and the cold cutoff.

Once the snow sticks, the park districts open 13 sledding hills across the three cities. Here's every one, plus what to know before you go.

Fargo: 2 hills, free sleds

  • Edgewood Chalet, 19 Golf Course Ave. N - no charge to use the sleds, and the old clubhouse is a warming house with a fireplace and a snack bar.1
  • Mickelson Park, 901 Oak St. N - the hill is on the flood levee. Sleds are free; leave a photo ID or a $20 deposit until you bring yours back.2

Hours: weekdays 4-8 p.m., weekends noon-8 p.m., closed December 24-25.2

The rules: no metal saucers, toboggans, sleds with metal runners, or cardboard; up to four sleds per group; no snowboards or skis on the hill; and stay inside the straw-bale or fenced lanes.3

West Fargo: 5 free hills

With warming houses: Rendezvous Park (1055 32nd Ave. W) and Maplewood Park (1504 17th Ave. E). Without: Rivers Bend Park (2548 1st St. E), West River Park (7th Ave. & 8th St. W), and Goldenwood Park (1330 5th St. NW).4 Weather closures are on the information line, 701-551-7138.4

Too cold?

Fargo's sledding hills and warming houses may close early when it hits -10°F or colder, or a wind chill of -30°F or colder.3 Moorhead uses the same line for its warming houses and activities.5

Want to ski instead? Moorhead grooms eight cross-country ski trails, and Edgewood rents skis and snowshoes. Our sledding and ski trails page has all of it - and from December through February, a live check of whether it's too cold.
