Cleaning Out the Garage? Where Old Paint and Electronics Go
Paint, chemicals, batteries, TVs, and glass don't go in the curbside bin. Where each one goes in Fargo, West Fargo, and Moorhead, with October's Saturday hours.
Fall cleanup turns up the stuff the recycling bin won't take: half-empty paint cans, old TVs, dead lithium batteries, and jars of who-knows-what. Each city has a place for them, and some of it is free.
Fargo and West Fargo: the Household Hazardous Waste Facility
606 43½ St. N., Fargo - (701) 281-8915
- Hours: Monday-Tuesday 9-5, Wednesday 9-6, Thursday-Friday 9-5, plus the second Saturday of each month, 8 a.m. to noon. Closed legal holidays.1 This month's Saturday is October 10; next month's is November 14.
- West Fargo residents use it too, free of charge.2
- What it takes includes paint, thinners, stains, and varnish; drain cleaners; fertilizers; automotive fluids; aerosol cans; mercury thermostats; oil filters; lithium-ion batteries; and electronics like computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, and TVs.2
Moorhead: the Clay County Resource Recovery Center
3322 15th Ave. N., Moorhead - (218) 299-5016
- Hours: Monday-Friday 8-4, plus the first and third Saturdays, 8 to 11:30 a.m.3 That's October 3 and October 17 this month, and November 7 and November 21 next.
- Hazardous waste is accepted from Clay County households only - not businesses - in containers of 5 gallons or less.4
- Electronics from Clay County homes are free. Microwaves and other appliances don't count as electronics; they can go to the same place for a charge.5
- Moorhead's list of household hazardous waste includes garden pesticides and weed killers, household cleaning chemicals, and fluorescent bulbs.6
Glass
Neither Fargo nor Moorhead takes glass in the curbside bin. Fargo stopped on March 6, 2023 - take it to one of the city's drop sites.7 Moorhead has glass-only dumpsters at its drop-off locations.8
Furniture and appliances in Moorhead
Outside of Clean Up Week, furniture and appliances are a special pickup that you're charged for, or you can haul them to the Resource Recovery Center, where disposal fees apply.6
Everything above is also on our where does this go? page, and your regular pickup week is on the recycling schedule.
